How did the Bircher Müsli come about?
The Bircher muesli was invented by the Swiss doctor Max Bircher-Benner . He was an enthusiastic advocate of whole foods, with the main goal of developing a healthy diet based on a plant-based diet. However, milk and dairy products were also allowed.
Dr. Max Bircher-Benner developed the Bircher muesli , which he believed was healing , according to these nutritional principles. He granted the cereal an activation of the self-healing powers. A healthy breakfast that provides enough energy was particularly important to Bircher-Benner. In addition, the cereal has a positive influence on intestinal function.
At that time, Bircher-Benner was still preparing the Bircher muesli with condensed milk. Even today, this dish remains particularly popular, especially in Switzerland, but is also gaining increasing popularity in Germany. There are already a variety of variations today.

What other Bircher cereal recipes are there?
There are now a variety of variations of the well-known Bircher muesli. Especially different toppings such as seeds, chia seeds or nuts are becoming increasingly popular. A healthy and balanced breakfast is of great importance to today's nutrition-conscious society.
More and more people are also concerned with the sustainability of their food. No wonder that the vegan version of the Bircher Muesli is becoming increasingly popular. Simply use a plant-based alternative such as rice milk or oat milk instead of cow's milk. Almond milk gives the Bircher Muesli an extra nutty touch.
As an additional topping, you can add fresh fruit, fruit sauce, or some sweetness like honey, agave syrup, or maple syrup. If you like it particularly nutty, you can add another tablespoon of nutmeg. There are no limits to the toppings. Whether berries , fruits, chia seeds, nuts or seeds in general.
Overnight oats as a variation of Bircher muesli

As mentioned above, the Bircher Muesli is soaked overnight according to the original recipe. Overnight oats are also prepared according to this principle.
The oatmeal is mixed with liquid and placed in a bowl or closed container. The liquid is absorbed by the oatmeal. Then the whole mixture is placed in the fridge overnight, and the next morning grated apples and the like are added.
This creates a particularly creamy consistency that you can refine. Overnight oats are also very popular with chia seeds. As with Bircher muesli, the variety of recipes is endless.
You can refine the overnight oats with toppings of your choice or with yogurt or low-fat quark. To do this, simply stir about 100 grams of yogurt per serving into the cereal.

Is Bircher Muesli really that healthy?
This question can clearly be answered in the affirmative. Cereal flakes are a great source of fiber. Despite the high amount of carbohydrates , they are among the complex sources of energy.
This means that Bircher muesli is particularly filling for a long time, helping to prevent the typical cravings that often arise after a light jam bun with butter.
A healthy breakfast that keeps you full for a long time and provides you with plenty of energy. The numerous fibers also support healthy intestinal function, making you feel completely at ease!
