At home in the middle of the Tyrolean Alps, we are, of course, all the more drawn to the mountains at this time of year on weekends. There, we can pursue our favorite winter sports and enjoy the fantastic snow-covered landscape. In addition to skiing, we are also big fans of snowboarding, ski touring, and tobogganing. The beautiful slopes offer you space for many mountain sports of your choice. We introduce you to the most beautiful ski resorts and huts around our homeland, Tyrol.
First breakfast – because for a powerful day we need the right nutrients in the sports diet. With a balanced, protein- and fiber-rich breakfast, you can indulge in your favorite sport for hours. So nothing stands in your way for a wonderful day on the mountain!
Our favorite ski resorts around Tyrol
You don't really need much for a day on the mountain. In addition to the right equipment and a nutritious breakfast, there are plenty of other tips for winter sports , including warming up and breathing properly during winter sports.
Whether for locals or your ski holiday in Austria, here are three of our favorite ski resorts right on your doorstep:
Kitzbühel – Kirchberg

The dreamy ski area in Kitzbühel stretches over seven municipalities and two federal states and offers over 50 lifts on over 200 kilometers of slopes. Kitzbühel is not least known for the legendary Hahnenkamm descent. In addition to other events, the ski area also offers over 60 great huts and skiing fun for the whole family.
Until the beginning of May, you can explore the fantastic slopes and the excellent gastronomy. Anyone who wants to collect a few kilometers of slopes can continue from Kirchberg, for example, to Saalbach or to the Wilder Kaiser in the Brixental Valley.
Saalbach Hinterglemm

A little further on, in the neighboring Salzburger Land, you will find the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn. It is one of the largest combined ski resorts - 270 kilometers of slopes, 70 lifts and 60 huts invite you to linger and play sports. The varied ski area offers something for everyone, with slopes of different levels of difficulty for beginners to professionals, snow parks, fun slopes, and much more.
Hochkönig – Saalfelden

The ski area, with about 120 kilometers of slopes, connects the villages of Maria Alm, Dienten, and Mühlbach and is perfect for a day trip. Other winter sports can also be practiced here; for example, the idyllic village of Maria Alm offers cross-country skiers the most kilometers of cross-country skiing trails in the region.
The Best Cabins to Refresh
A midday stop in a cozy alpine hut is simply part of mountain sports. But how about a delicious breakfast with a fantastic view of the slopes and mountains? From rustic to modern, there is a suitable hut for everyone. Our favorite huts around Tyrol definitely include the Tom Almhütte on the Hochkönig, the Mama Thresl and the Hendl Fischerei in Saalfelden, and the PlatzlAlm in the Hochzillertal.
Tom Almhütte
The casual alpine hut is located on the Hochkönig and can be reached via the Natrunbahn from Maria Alm. It combines modern architecture and rustic hut charm. Each room is furnished with attention to detail and provided with cool accents; for example, chairlift chairs serve as bar stools.
In addition to the beautiful mountain panorama, you can enjoy the delicious "brutally regional" alpine brunch here every day. Because here, special attention is paid to regional shopping. Selected Verival products can also be found at Tom's Brunch.
Mama Thresl & the Hendl fishery
An absolute highlight can be found in beautiful Leogang. Mama Thresl and her team spoil visitors with culinary delights, a relaxed atmosphere, and cool events. From here, the skiing holiday in the fantastic Saalbach Hinterglemm ski region can be started perfectly. With the motto "urban soul meets the alps", they create a tension between tradition and modernity and show how contemporary hotels in the Alps can do without conventions and clichés.
Don't miss the breathtaking view of Hendl Fishing. The stylish ski hut, which is located directly at the Asitz mountain station, inspires visitors with cool events, the finest delicacies, and DJ sounds. When the sun comes out, the glass roof and the glass walls of the hut are simply driven away, so that you can enjoy and admire the beautiful weather and the fantastic mountain scenery even better.
Platzlalm
The beautiful PlatzlAlm is located at an altitude of 1790 m in the Hochzillertal valley. A welcoming cabin awaits you with rustic furniture, rustic Tyrolean coziness, zeitgeist, and modern comfort. The magnificent sun terrace invites you to feast and relax with spectacular views. A rich breakfast buffet with Verival cereal corner and freshly roasted coffee ensure the best start to the ski day in the morning.
Do you start your ski holiday or ski weekend directly in a rented hut on or at the foot of a mountain? For a relaxed start to the day, you can start your day with a warm porridge , for example, which will give you enough energy and keep you full until you stop!
And now it's really just "Aufi aufn Berg!"
